Among the oldest buildings, we can highlight the churches of Santa María and San Juan, the Torre Abacial (Abbey Tower), which offers a beautiful view of the region from its terrace, and the Casa de la Primicia, where the tithes and first fruits for the church were collected.
The town is for pedestrians only because practically all the houses have an underground cellar or winery.
In the Plaza Mayor (Main Square), the carillon clock opens its doors several times a day so that dancers can dance to the sound of the festive tunes.
The Celtiberian pond of La Barbacana, to the south of Calle Mayor (Main Street), is one of the most important archaeological remains in the town. Furthermore, there are several dolmens and the prehistoric settlement of La Hoya in the surrounding area.
The Prao de la Paul reservoir and the saltwater lagoons of Carralogroño and Carravalseca are highly recommended for hiking and bird watching.
The festivities of San Juan and San Pedro (Saint John and Saint Paul) in June are the patron saint celebrations and have a special charm to them. Christmas and Easter are celebrated intensely. Other minor festivities include the Day of the Piper, Santiago, and Thanksgiving.
Any occasion or celebration is a good excuse to get to know and enjoy Laguardia.
