Its location on the hillside gives it the appearance of the fortress it once was. From a distance you can make out the parish church of the Assumption of Our Lady, built on the site of the ancient defensive bastion. Inside, there is a 16th-century altarpiece with particularly expressive images. As you stroll through the streets, you will come across numerous palatial houses, one of which stands out: the Casa del Indiano, with its coat of arms, artistic balconies and railings.
Its main square (Plaza Mayor) is an excellent meeting place for leisurely summer evenings. You can take a walk to the ‘La Chabola de la Hechicera’ dolmen, a megalithic construction that served as a collective pantheon and which, according to legend, was inhabited by a witch belonging to an ancient race of mythological beings similar to the “gentiles” of other parts of the Basque Country.
