Remírez de Ganuza

Founded in 1989 and located in the center of Samaniego, Álava, Remírez de Ganuza produces contemporary Rioja wines. Since our beginnings we have been characterized by revolutionizing some of the traditional methods in the area, introducing improvements both in the vineyard and in winemaking. One of the most notable systems is that of separating the Tempranillo clusters into two parts.

The winery has 80 hectares of its own vineyards. It consists of 70 estates formed from more than 200 plots in 9 municipalities in the foothills of Sierra Cantabria: Labastida, San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Avalos, Samaniego, Leza, Elciego, Navaridas, Laguardia and Elvillar.

Everything at Remírez de Ganuza matters: the harvest, which is done by hand in 12-kilo boxes; the meticulous selection of grapes; respect for the grapes in the production processes; hygiene measures that border on obsession, and long aging in new oak barrels, mostly French oak. No bottle of Remírez de Ganuza is released to the market without having rested for a long time in the cellar. We believe that only time allows our wines to develop the characteristics and style we are looking for as winemakers.

Remírez de Ganuza is the reflect of the present of La Rioja Alavesa, a look at the tradition and the future of the wine making in the area.
