Rioja-Basque cuisine, varied and exquisite

Gastronomy

The gastronomy is another of the pillars of tourism in Rioja Alavesa. Eating well is part of our culture and lifestyle. A good part of our leisure time revolves around good food, pintxos counters in our bars and even lunch or a barbecue among the vines. You can enjoy fine, varied cuisine, with typical Rioja-Basque or avant-garde dishes and elaborations, as well as local products such as extra virgin olive oil of the Arróniz variety, exclusively from the region or the Alava potato.

Rioja Alavesa offers the possibility to enjoy gastronomy true to the culinary roots of the region, which has a prodigious pantry of local products. Ingredients that allow our chefs to prepare delicious dishes in their kitchens with traditional or sophisticated recipes. Flavours and textures ranging from classical ancestral Basque and Rioja cuisine to the delicacies of modern cuisine, or the miniature culinary works of art that are pintxos and mini-casseroles.

A varied and exquisite cuisine that this privileged area has bequeathed in some of its best traditional dishes to popular recipe books, including Potatoes Rioja style with chorizo, roast suckling lamb, lamb chops grilled over vine shoot charcoals, fresh vegetables, lamb cheeks in red wine, white beans, been stews, hake, rib-eye steak or roast blood sausage, among many others.

Rioja Alavesa chefs have managed to combine modernity and tradition, and offer miniature delicacies or menus paired with a selection of the best wines of Rioja Alavesa. The perfect marriage of local cuisine to the excellent wines from the cellars of the region.
