The streets of Samaniego invite one to take a walk among the well-preserved, severe, stone-built houses. The village centre maintains a structure that recalls the important role this village played in the wars of the Middle Ages.

The parish church of La Asunción was built on the walls of a fortress and still maintains its austere appearance today, in contrast to the decorative style of the late Baroque facade.

The Palacio de Samaniego. El Cristo hermitage, El Valle hermitage and matarredo neighborhood, which has been completely restored and converted into a magnificent hotel, are some of his more outstanding civil buildings.

The village of Samaniego holds a number of events during the year, such as the Burning of Judas on Resurrection Sunday; “Las Mañas”, on the night of December 7 when people walk through the streets with burning branches in order to purify the village and to righten away demons. Its carnivals and the celebration of Whitsunday are also interesting.
