The expectation created by all that surrounds the exciting world of wine, and in this region we are speaking of a major product with its legendary vintage wines that are known worldwide, has given rise to an exciting project headed by wineries of all kinds, companies linked to wine tourism, hotels, restaurants, museums, wine cellars and all the municipalities in the area.
The Rioja Alavesa Wine Route, an itinerary full of activities throughout all the seasons of the year, is supported by Alava and Basque institutions and intends to introduce a new concept of tourism. Apart from a unique experience in the vineyards and wineries; apart from the attraction of the land, travellers may also enjoy specialised Fairs, popular festivities and exhibitions, vintage car rallies, marathon races, personalised excursions as well as inns, country houses and hotels offering welcoming and charming accommodation for the night; or they may enjoy the cuisine, true to its roots and blessed with a prodigious production of legumes and vegetables, sausages, meat and sweets.
Wineries, museums, rural hotels and guesthouses, restaurants, wine merchants, and so on. 106 establishments have joined forces with the common aim of improving the experience of travellers who visit the Rioja Alavesa and of offering them ever more sophisticated and personalised services. For this reason we have adopted the criteria of the quality charter of the Asociación Española de Ciudades del Vino (Spanish Association of Wine Cities - ACEVIN) and the Secretariat of Tourism and we have met their strict requirements. Since January 2006, we have formed part of the select club of “Wine Routes of Spain” as a CERTIFIED route.
